A timeline of Taxiunionen's work since 2017 — organising, authority dialogue, political advocacy, consultations, media and member value. We distinguish between changes that have been implemented after dialogue and advocacy and issues where the work is still ongoing.
We keep facts, Taxiunionen's positions and external sources apart. Where a public document or a published article exists, we link to the original.

Taxiunionen takes the pricing question public
In Svenska Dagbladet, Taxiunionen argues that free pricing has contributed to taxi scams and weakened consumer trust.
The association calls for order, reasonable prices, fair conditions and a system that makes it easier for customers to understand what a taxi ride should cost.

“The gig companies want to avoid all responsibility”
Taxiunionen's chair Nasar Khan writes in Svenska Dagbladet about why the taxi industry is a clear example of the need for the EU Platform Work Directive.
Taxiunionen's position is that digital technology and innovation are not the problem. The question is who carries responsibility when the platform also controls central parts of the work.

Taxiunionen submits a consultation response on the Platform Work Directive
Taxiunionen submits an extensive response to SOU 2026:3 on how the EU Platform Work Directive should be implemented in Sweden.
Taxiunionen broadly welcomes rules based on actual direction and control, but warns that platforms must not be able to avoid responsibility by placing operators or other intermediaries between the platform and the person doing the work.
The response covers price setting, pay, allocation of rides, account deactivation and algorithmic control.

Taxiunionen in the parliamentary transport committee
Taxiunionen and the Swedish Transport Workers' Union take part in the transport committee's work on the situation in the taxi industry.
The issue then reaches the chamber as well. In April, Kadir Kasirga (S) refers in a parliamentary debate to the problems described by Taxiunionen and the Transport Workers' Union, and calls for measures for the taxi industry.

Taxiunionen submits a consultation response on the future of Arlanda
Taxiunionen submits its response to SOU 2025:67, the public inquiry on Arlanda's role for Swedish prosperity.
The association raises the need for clearer consumer protection, better pricing, competitively neutral open queues, more modern call-forward systems, order on the taxi areas and better enforcement.
Among other things Taxiunionen proposes fewer and neutral open queues, and the principle that whoever reaches the taxi holding area first should also be called forward first.

Taxiunionen opens its meeting to the whole taxi industry
At a well-attended meeting in Folkets hus in Solna, Taxiunionen gathers members as well as other drivers and operators to discuss conditions in the industry.
The message is that a divided industry will struggle to shape its own conditions, and that organising has to come before conflicts between different groups of drivers.

Working conditions
Strike and protest against the app companies' fees
Drivers in Taxiunionen strike in September 2024 and protest at Arlanda on 21 October 2024, demanding that the service fee be cut to 15 per cent and that drivers be treated as counterparties in matters that directly affect their work.

Fair Taxi takes shape
Fair, the member-initiated alternative, develops as an attempt to show that digital technology and app-based taxi can be combined with more influence for the people doing the work.

Member decision
Members vote for a member-owned alternative
With dialogue with the large platforms no longer working, members choose another route: building an alternative where drivers and operators themselves have influence.
That decision becomes the basis for Fair Taxi.

Historical event: Taxiunionen meets Uber and puts forward demands for higher pay, lower service fees and for the association to be accepted as a counterpart in talks.
This describes how things looked at the time. Today Taxiunionen does not negotiate prices or terms with Uber, Bolt or any other app company.

The door closes to the platform companies
Taxiunionen seeks dialogue about conditions for drivers and operators working through the app platforms. During 2023 real dialogue becomes impossible as the platform companies close the door.
Members are left with the question of how organising should continue when the association has no way to influence conditions through direct dialogue with the platforms.

The year also marks a step in the association's organisational development in its current form. It is not the founding of Taxiunionen — the official start is 2017.

Taxiunionen officially starts in 2017. The organisation's registration is documented from that year.
2017 is the year from which the association's age is counted: a member-driven, independent organisation of taxi drivers and operators.

Background: app taxi drivers start organising informally, at first in a Facebook group.
This is not the formal start of the association, but the environment where the need for a shared voice takes shape.

- Free exit: the original proposal was 45 minutes — Taxiunionen pushed the issue and the outcome was 60 minutes of free exit
- Double guard pairs during the 2025/26 summer season
- Cameras and licence plate reading were installed
