Taxiunionen takes part as future taxi rules are reviewed

The government has instructed the Swedish Transport Agency to review the rules on price information when a taximeter is used. The agency is to analyse and propose legislative amendments or other measures that make the rules clearer, make it easier for consumers and counteract unreasonable taxi prices.

The government notes that only one in ten respondents in a survey could use today's price information to estimate the cost of a taxi ride. Reports of unreasonably high taxi prices more than doubled between 2024 and 2025 and continue to rise in 2026. In 2025, complainants had on average paid around SEK 1,410 more than they expected.

The Transport Agency is also to review the rest-period rules. The government describes the requirement for a physical logbook as outdated. The assignment covers modernisation of the registration of daily rest and an assessment of whether the current scope of the rest-period regulation is fit for purpose.

According to the government decision, the Transport Agency is to hold dialogue with the Swedish Work Environment Authority, the Police Authority, the Swedish Consumer Agency, the social partners and the industry organisations concerned. Taxiunionen has now been contacted and will take part in the dialogue.

The price part is to be reported in part by 30 June 2027 and the final report is to be submitted by 15 December 2027.

Taxiunionen sees it as an important task to bring members' experiences into the work. It is the industry itself – drivers, operators and others who work in taxi – that knows where the rules work and where they need to be reviewed.
